Rules and Regulations – All Contestants

1. Contestants must be single, never married, without children and never having been pregnant. (With the exception of Mrs. and Ms. Contestants.) The contestant must be a female who has always been a female, must possess good moral character having never been convicted of any crime nor has any criminal charges pending against her, and must never have committed an act or engaged in any activity which is or could be characterized as dishonest, immoral, immodest or indecent.

2. Contestants must be CURRENT RESIDENTS OF SHENANDOAH COUNTY.

3. Application and entry fee must be received by the Pageant Director by July 31, 2008.

4. Each category will have a photogenic competition. Photo date will be announced through workshops and website. If you are unable to attend the photo shoot, you will not be included in the photogenic competition. No outside pictures will be allowed.

5. Wee-Baby thru Little Miss contestants will be required to have ONE (1) adult backstage. Parent’s choice for Young Miss Division. NOTE: For all other categories– ONLY the contestant and pageant personnel will be allowed backstage.

6. Contestants and guests will conduct themselves in a proper manner at all times. Any display of poor sportsmanship or uncooperative behavior from the contestant or accompanying family/guest will result in the disqualification of the contestant.

7. Age group Queens will be required to participate in several Fair events. A schedule of these events will be distributed and will be posted on the website. All Queens’ must be present at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.  Saturday, August 23, 2008. Time TBA.  

8. The Fair Association/Pageant Directors will not be responsible for solving any type of

conflict/disagreement that may occur pertaining to a contestant. Should a conflict arise, the

contestants involved will be pulled from the pageant IMMEDIATELY.

9. All age categories will be given scheduled times to be backstage. Tardiness will result in point deductions. We cannot delay the pageant for tardiness.

10. Parents/Guardians must bring contestants to the “check in” area at the pageant. Pageant staff will give you a numbered ticket that you must present when you pick up your contestant at the “check out” area. (Miss, Mrs. and Ms. Contestants Excluded).

11. Changing rooms are available at Central High School. IT IS STONGLY RECOMMENDED that hair and makeup be done prior to arrival. It will be impossible to supply space and electrical outlets for the number of contestants we expect.

12. Teen Miss Shenandoah and Miss Shenandoah County Fair Queens will advance to the Virginia Association of Fairs Pageant! Please remember that this is a commitment that will require extensive preparation. We will assist you in every aspect of competition but you MUST be willing and available for several workshops. Times of workshops to be announced with consideration to Queen’s and Director’s schedules. Failure to comply will result in forfeiture of title to a Runner Up.

13. ALL AGE GROUPS in the evening pageant will present a 30 second personal introduction. Further instructions will be available at workshops and website.

14. Miss Contestants will have a 5 minute interview and will be required to speak on an issue of concern to them. Further instructions will be available at workshops and website.

15. No food/drinks will be allowed in the gym at Central High School. We expect the school property to be treated with respect by contestants and family/guests.   

16. Queens represent the Shenandoah County Fair. You are expected to conduct yourself in a mannerly fashion, including online activity. MYSPACE, FACEBOOK and similar sites need to be tasteful. Any infraction of this rule will result in a warning. Any further infractions will result in immediate forfeiture of title.

17. Junior Teens and younger age groups MUST have straps on their gowns.  Point deductions will result if noncompliant.
