Shenandoah County Fair Scholarship Pageant

Where Dreams Come True…
Dear Contestants, Families and Friends,

It’s time to start planning for the 2009 Shenandoah County Fair Scholarship Pageant! We are very excited and would like you all to know about some of the exciting changes and additions we are planning to make this years pageant more successful and enjoyable for you!

  1. “Back to basics” is our plan and we are starting with hair/makeup/gowns. We want to see your natural beauty! Attire and makeup for day pageant contestants (ages up to 12) should be sweet, simple and age appropriate. If you choose to wear makeup, it should only be a sweep of blush, light lip gloss and mascara. Hair should also be soft, sweet and simple. Most importantly, do not buy expensive gowns! A simple flower girl dress, simple tulle dress or “Sunday Best” would be a perfect choice. If you need some “bling” add a pretty rhinestone broach. Any length is acceptable, however preteens should be in a long gown. Judges will be deducting points for attire and hair/makeup that distract from your natural beauty.
  2. Trophies! Our newly crowned queens and 3 runners-up will receive beautiful trophies!
  3. Videographer! Dick Powers Productions will record the pageant, pizza party, rehearsal and other “behind the scenes” activities. He puts it all together in an amazing DVD for the presale price of only $25. ($35 if purchased at the pageant.)
  4. Photographer!  Shenandoah Counties own Deb is our official photographer!Deb will be taking our pageant headshots for the program book and the photogenic competition. She will also be offering affordable picture packages at the pageant and has chosen some great gift ideas! Coffee mugs, purses and t-shirts embossed with your pageant picture will be available!
  5. Backstage Coordinator! This past year we planned to have volunteers in each dressing room. Many volunteers did not show up and it led to confusion and frustration. This year we have chosen a “backstage coordinator.” She will remain at the end of the dressing room hall and will be responsible for assigning dressing rooms, lining up contestants and answering questions you may have. You can’t miss our backstage coordinator! Look for the lady in the BIG crown!
  6. Air Conditioning! As many of you remember, the gym was very hot last year! We learned that the air conditioning at Central High School is set on a timer and someone forgot to change it for the pageant. We know who to call if that happens again! We are all looking forward to a cooler pageant!
  7. Computerized scoring! One our most exciting changes will be computerized tabulation. In addition to two tabulators, scores will be tabulated by a computer. The results will be a much faster and efficient pageant.
  8. Where Dreams Come True...! Our theme this year is “Where dream comes true…” and we hope to make dreams come true for many in the community. This year our fundraiser project will benefit an area food bank. More details to come, but please be stocking up on extra non-perishable food items. The contestant contributing the most food will receive a fantastic gift!
  9. Website Returns!  Our website will be updated in the next couple weeks. Photogenic dates, workshop dates and other important information can be found at ShenandoahCountyFairPageant.com

I am excited to announce that Wal-Mart of Woodstock and Reflections of Harrisonburg have each donated $500 to our scholarship fund!  Domino’s of Woodstock is donating all the pizzas for our rehearsal pizza party! Please thank these generous businesses for helping to make our fair pageant not just the biggest in the state, but the best!!

I look forward to working with you all and please email me at scfairpageant@yahoo.com if you have any questions or ideas you wish to pass along!

Sincerely,
Betsy Conley, Director
